What:Recycled metallic clutchesWhere:IndiaStyle signature:Transforming recycled plastic into fashionable accessories Backstory:Plastic is collected from urban areas in the western state of Gujarat, providing employment to the rag pickers, schools and factories. After the collected plastic is cleaned and sorted, it is cut into long strips and spun onto a bobbin using traditional pit and standing looms to create plastic textiles. Rajiben trains women how to weave with the plastic and bight, fun and unique designs are thus created. Inspiration:To produce beautiful and practical accessories from what would otherwise be thrown away while creating sustainable employment in the process. |
