What:Placemats, towels and napkinsWhere:Sri LankaStyle signature:Hand-woven placemats, napkins and twill towels in rich and vibrant hand-dyed colours.Backstory:Barefoot began over 40 years ago when founder Barbara Sansoni was invited to design cloth for women learning to weave in a convent workshop North of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Today the company she founded has a small team of dedicated designers who work with their own dyers, weavers and skilled needle women. Barefoot is a large employer in Sri Lanka and has approximately 750 staff in addition to some women who are employed part-time and take their work home. Barefoot works almost exclusively with women and mostly in small work centers located in the countryside. They also provide training and teach core skills, such as weaving and sewing along with organizational and managerial skills.Inspiration:Imagination, originality and precious human skills. |
