Backstory:Haider Ali was born in Central Punjab, the largest of Pakistan’s four provinces. He grew up in Karachi and learned to paint from a senior truck artist but his parents did not support his passion, forcing him to paint in secret. Later he became an apprentice and has gone on to become one of the most celebrated truck artists in Pakistan. For the past six years, Haider has been painting for the Tribal Truck Art Project, mentoring young artists who come to paint in Karachi from the surrounding villages. Recently Haider was commissioned to paint a truck for the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC.
