There are a lot of women in this world that deserve a great deal of admiration, but the ones that succeed despite their circumstances seem to especially deserve it. Far & Wide Collective is full of women like this, some of whom we have been profiling this week in honour of International Women’s Day. Perhaps closest to my heart is Shugufa Yousofzai - one of the strongest, most talented, driven and compassionate young women I know. It is because of women like her that I started Far & Wide Collective.
Shugufa grew up in a middle-class home in Pakistan and then moved to Kabul after the fall of the Taliban. I first met her when she was 19 - a shy young girl looking for her first job. Today she is married to a man she chose herself, has a child, runs her own business and advises other businesses on how to be successful. She is exactly the kind of woman that Afghanistan needs - and fortunately part of a growing group of successful professional women.
To me, she and so many other women I have met on my travels in the past decade are “inspiring change” and I am celebrating them this International Women’s Day. We need to support these women - by giving them opportunities that enable them to show their strength and talent - in business and elsewhere. This is the Far & Wide Collective mission and we hope you will join us and support these women!
